Building Community Relationships

School-community partnerships can interconnect together many resources and strategies to enhance communities that support all youth and their families. They could improve schools, strengthen neighbourhoods and lead to a noticeable reduction in young people's problems. Building such partnerships requires visioning, strategic planning, creative leadership and new multifaceted roles for professionals who work in schools and communities.

This year I have been focusing on building relationships with the following community organizations:

Red Deer College:

- Providing students opportunities to learning opportunities and be exposed to equipment not available to them in the regular classroom

- Provide a hands learning opportunity for students to learn from the experts

- create partnership with college that benefits both the college students / athletes and public school students and athletes

- Expose students in grade 8 to the many trade programs offered at Red Deer College and the High Schools in Red Deer Public Schools

SPCA Red Deer:

- A great service learning opportunity for students to learn about non profit organizations and what function they serve in our community

- Great opportunity for students with special needs to feel a sense of belonging and make personnel connections

- Provides the students with the feeling that what they are doing matters and are helping out their community

- Benefits the SPCA by providing needed services

- Educates students on how to properly care for animals, and creates awareness of animal abuse issues in the community
